happy birthday to my biggest inspiration, sharon needles!

this was taken on one of the best nights of my life. just 4 days after my 18th birthday, sharon popped up a performance just two hours away from me. once the deal was finalized, i knew it was going to be an amazing night. the moment i saw her, i knew she was exactly who i’d been hoping to meet for months on end. she was beautiful, funny, personable, and had a huge heart. oh and drunk. she was drunk. i’ll never forget the first thing she said when she came over to the group of us was that she was really upset that she scratched her cornea and couldn’t wear lashes. we of course told her it was fine, and with that she sat six inches away from my face and we took the group photo. after a hell of a peggy bundy private performance, she talked to us about her album and how no matter what randy said, she was going to talk about it anyway. she charmed the crowd and then whisked off to change. as we were moving to the next room, we encountered a lost sharon. she asked me where her dressing room was… she was standing right in front of it. after she changed we saw her go out the back door for a cigarette. she set off the alarm. it was cute. so after performances from some pretty fierce queens, sharon came out in this outfit. she sang us her “cheap transvestite” and then told the dj to start it over because she thought she had messed up. after that, she talked to the crowd about how we made her win that $100,000 and of course we all hailed satan a few times. oh and she made us give strangers hugs. then, we had to go back to the first room to line up for meet and greets. my friend and i went the wrong way so we ended up almost in the back of the VIP line. i was upset, but only until a drunk, even more lost sharon came up to the line. she looked it up and down and no word of a lie just came up to me. she stood there, like twelve feet tall, and smiled and held out a delicate cheetah gloved hand to me. i took it and she said “i just wanted to say that you look fantastic.” she gave my hand a squeeze, i thanked her, and she walked away without talking to anyone else. we waited in that line for about an hour and security wanted sharon to rush through the rest of the meetings. she refused. sharon gave me a huge hug, and we talked about stacy layne matthews, drag race, my face, and what ever else i blabbed about… i was just so excited, it was almost a blur. “your face is like butter” she said as she was basically holding out a paw to feel it. she signed my poster, and then i asked her to sign my vest, which randy really liked. i crouched in front of her and she got really confused. “oh! i thought you said sign my breasts!i was going to say if you weren’t so young i’d write something good on there…” and with that, she turned me back around, plopped me on her lap, and signed away. when we both got up, she gave me a hug, and held her hands out to mine. she told me some of the best advice in that moment. other than commenting about my skin, she told me to “stay weird. don’t do any of that cookie cutter shit” because i was much better off the way i was. with a last squeeze, smile, and a “KILL YOUR PARENTS!” our meeting was over, and i’ll never forget that night.

In the past year my life has completely changed because of you, you’ve literally saved my life and have made me feel like there’s someone out there that I can look up to that’s a “freak” and is way fucking cooler & more successful than any other “normal” person. You are truly my role model and inspiration, and I would not be alive today if it wasn’t for you being a voice for all of the “weird freaks”. These pictures were taken the day I met you at the matinee show of “The Silence of the Trans” at the Castro Theatre. It was in all sincerity one of the most wonderful days of my life, you were beyond anything I ever could have expected and being in your presence led me to be so awe struck I could barely form sentences (sorry about that haha). Meeting you that day revolutionized my life for the better in so many ways, including setting me on the path of recovery from diabulimia. Thank you for being a voice for the “freaks” and “weird kids”, thank you for saving my life, thank you for being my inspiration and role model, and lastly thank you for being you. Happy Birthday Sharon, I hope today is wonderful & spooky. I love you XX <3

I just got back from seeing Sharon Needles perform live. It was amazing.

The set included A LOT of Lady Bunny, Channel, Yara Sophia, and many other lovey queens. Las Vegas Pride was so much fun! :D
